Consultations

Our Pastry Chef Adrianna King, takes a limited number of bookings per year and we are booked for custom catering at least four months in advance, so an early start to the design process is essential. It is recommended that once your event date has been set, a consultation be arranged.

Due to the consistent catering part of our business our Consultations are now only held on Sundays.

Whether it’s just a cake or full feature dessert table, consultations form the backbone of the design process and as such are mandatory. We understand that some of our clients are out of town and may not be able to attend a face to face consultation at our studio; these are the only exceptions and we shall then choose another method to discuss the dessert design.

What to expect from our Consultation Appointment

Each cake and dessert table design at The Powder Sugar Room is unique and designed with the couple in mind. All cakes and desserts are created from the bottom up, Paying attention to many different elements of your wedding or event. Consultations usually last One hour, where details of the wedding theme, colors, venue and other aspects important to the couple are discussed in detail. During this time the couple will be able to sample cake flavors which are updated on a seasonal basis.

What is expected of the couple

At The Powder Sugar Room, we try our very best to create a comfortable, free-flowing discussion about the esthetic, balance and taste of each designed cake. We strive to make each couple feel as “at home” as possible endeavoring to exchange with us their expectations for their wedding or event.

A maximum of two-people, preferably the engaged couple is allowed during the tasting consultation.

The couple will be asked to bring with them visuals or keepsakes that are important to them. This will be outlined in detail when a tasting consultation appointment is made.

No photos of other designers cakes are permitted at the consultation. As we are artist and believe other designers are as well and respect their ideas and license. We hope that you can trust us to provide you with a cake that you will know was created just for you.

A non-refundable deposit of 1/4 of the price is required to hold your date and add your cake to the schedule with us. This will be due at the end of the consultation. The remaining balance is due 2 weeks before your event date.

Sculpted cakes are no longer in the repertoire of The Powder Sugar Room. We may have made them in the past but we choose not to make them anymore. However, we will be happy to direct you to some of our most talented friends who design such cakes.
